  1. QUESTION: I have a question about the Mississippi Stud strategy at wizardofodds.com. After you’ve seen four cards and are making your last bet before you see the fifth, the weakest hand it says to raise on is three mid-cards provided you’ve made at least one 3x bet.
  2. Play Mississippi Stud. Mississippi Stud is an exclusive and unique take on online poker that’s prompted a flurry of activity amongst fans of the card game. The simple gameplay and favorable odds make for an environment that’s built for players, not the casino.

Mississippi Stud is a game available at most online casinos. It may also be found at some live casinos, especially those owned by Caesars Entertainment in Las Vegas. Mississippi Stud is distributed by SHFL. The beginning chip stack in this game is $10,000. This amount may be reset be reloading the page.

First post here, but having been reading awhile now. Just returned from a trip to Vegas and my friend and I got into a heated discussion on the new 6 card bet on MS stud at the Caesar's properties. He believes that taking the first 4 cards off the deck and in his view 'out of play' for the card side bet play, changes the odds on the MS stud part of the game. I claim that burning 4 cards does not change the odds of the 5 card bet at all because you still get 2 random cards to play with 3 random community cards. The 4 cards for the side bet are not different than if they were in the unused portion of the deck.
Nothing I nor several other people have said can seem to prove it to him. His claim is that CET wouldn't have put the bet on the game if it didn't increase the house advantage. While I agree that they wouldn't have put it there to help the player, I say it's only to add to their revenue based on the terrible payout of the side bet.
I don't have the math to back my argument - that is does matter to the odds as to where in a randomly shuffled deck the played cards are deck from as long as there are 52 random cards. And that the order of dealing of the 4 side bet cards has no bearing on his win/loss amounts.
So, am I looking at this incorrectly? If I am wrong I would like to know.
Thanks

I do not have the math to help you but you could ask your friend the following.
What if we took the deck and made a cut and dealt from the cut, would that change the odds?
What if the bonus was taken from the bottom of the deck, would that change it?
If he can not provide you a reason that it does other than they did it because it does then the argument is flawed to begin with.Mississippi Stud Casino Odds

Burning four cards, or any number, does not change the odds.
It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet.

Definately doesn't change the odds, but it does change the mechanics of the games in question. I just don't like Hold'em games dealt from a machine. I like for a player to be able to 'sit out a hand' without them having their hand so obviously be on display in the seat next to them.
I also don't like that they force players to play other bonus bets in order to play it. The house edge is high enough, but now you want players to play the three card on top of it? I don't like that bet on MS - I don't like cheering against my dealt hand.
It also has ramped up the 'DON'T TOUCH THE CARDS OR CHIPS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD' attitude, which only zaps the fun when someone makes a mistake and they get their hand slapped.
NOVELTY POKER

Rather than compete with the other players at the table, Novelty poker games pit you against the dealer or a pay table. Some of the rules and pay tables may vary slightly by casino, but each game has its own unique spin on the poker classics.

Mississippi Stud

Mississippi Stud is a five-card poker variation that pits you against a pay table rather than against the dealer. It also offers the chance at a 500 to 1 payout! Here’s how it works.

Object of the Game

Win the pot by making the best five-card hand possible using a combination of personal and community cards. The game is played by either betting or folding each time a new card is revealed.

1. The game begins with each player placing an Ante bet to build up the pot.

2. Once Antes are placed, the dealer gives each player two cards face down and places three cards in a community pile.

3. The “Third Street” (first betting round) begins. In this and all following rounds of betting, players have two options:

  • Make a bet of 1 to 3x the Ante

4. After bets have been placed, the dealer turns over the first community card. This leads to the “Fourth Street” betting round.

5. After bets have been placed, the dealer turns over the second community card. This leads to the “Fifth Street” betting round.

6. Following the “Fifth Street,” the final community card is turned over and bets are paid out according to the pay table.

Odds

While some skill is involved in determining whether or not to bet or fold, Mississippi Stud is a game of chance based on the random distribution of cards. On average, the better the hand, the better your odds of winning.

Strategies

Since community cards are revealed progressively in Mississippi Stud, bets are made based on a combo of personal and communal cards. The following betting strategies may help make the game as enjoyable as possible.

On the opening two cards, raise by 1x if the hand includes:

  • A Jack or higher
  • A pair of sixes
  • A six plus any other higher card

At any time:

  • If you have a hand that wins according to the pay table and there’s still a round of betting to go, raise your bet by three times, the maximum.
